Pok Fu Lam Village | Pok Fu Lam Village Mid-Autumn Fire Dragon Dance
Description
To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and the 77th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, Pok Fu Lam Village will stage its traditional Fire Dragon Dance.
Recognised as part of Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage, the iconic spectacle features a dragon made of straw and bamboo sticks, paraded through the village by over a hundred villagers and volunteers to bring blessings of well-being and peace to the community.
The dance begins at the front of the village on Pok Fu Lam Road with a coiling ritual known as ‘the dragon leaving its cave’. The dragon then proceeds to the Li Ling Divine Pagoda and the Temple of the God of the Underworld for worship rituals before winding through the village's streets and lanes to bring blessings to households.
The parade ends with the ritual of ‘the dragon returning to the sea’ at Waterfall Bay Park, marking a memorable finale to this cherished cultural tradition.
